Mac OS Info Cleaning Out Old Graphic Files
Stored By AOL's Web Browser
(Emptying The Cache)
Mac OS Info

While you visit different places on the internet,
web browsers are designed to store ('cache') images on your hard drive.
This is done to allow for reoccurring images to appear on a web page without
having to retrieve those images from the internet. This speeds up your viewing time
for a page to completely download.

If a web page has been updated, it is possible for your web browser to reload
the old images (and pages) that are cached on your hard drive. Browsers have an
"EMPTY CACHE" button that you can manually select to clean out all of your old
images, graphics, etc. (You can automatically have the browser empty the cache.
This preference is usually located near the "EMPTY CACHE" button.) Once you
have emptied the cache, you will need to "RELOAD" web pages. This will
force your browser to retrieve ALL of the web pages' most recent data.

Unfortunately, AOL's web browser requires you to quit AOL and then
restart AOL for the cache to completely empty.
(Sometimes you may not need to quit and restart.)

IMPORTANT TIP!!
(Applies to either AOL version)
Next to the "EMPTY CACHE" button, you can select the MAXIMUM CACHE SIZE,
the lower the number, the fewer AOL temporary files will be stored onto your hard drive.
In simple terms, this means that AOL will take up less space on your hard drive.
